Point of view ... |
JUAN SÁNCHEZ GARCÍA |
 |
Juan Sánchez, born on 24-06-1955 in Casares,
by trade a carpenter, became a member
of the Communist Party in 1975.
After it
was legalized, in 1977 he became an active
member in the first Local Committee of the
Spanish C.P. in Casares. Chosen to head the
local election list in 1979, he was elected
as Mayor when he was only 23.
With more
enthusiasm than training and experience,
Juan Sánchez began his career as Mayor of
Casares upholding the principles with which
he still works today. He was re-elected four
times as Mayor of Casares, and although in
the local elections of 1995 his political party,
IU (the United Left) obtained the most votes,
the coalition formed by the rest of the parties
robbed him of the Mayor’s seat.
After continuously
working from the opposition that
brought about the resignation of the then
Mayor of the GIL party, Juan Sánchez once
again occupied the Mayor’s seat in May of
2000, where he has remained until now, after
winning the next municipal elections. |
During all these years of dedication to local
politics, he participated in the Management
Committee of the Association of Townships
of the Western Costa del Sol. In the term of
office from 1987 to 1991, Juan Sánchez was
the Vice-President of this Association, during
which the water company, Acosol, was created,
and in the term from 2003 to 2007 he
occupied the President’s chair.
Juan Sánchez has progressed from being
one of the youngest mayors to one of those
who has remained the most time in office.
During his political career, from 1977 he has
been a member of the Local Committee, the
District Committee, the Provincial Committee
and, now, the Central Committee of the Communist
Party of Andalsia. |
