THE CASTLE |
This construction is set in the
historic cen tre of the town and
it is the only one conserved
from the mus lim era.
The
medina of Marbella was one
of the most important cities
or the “Rayya” (province
of Malaga).
The fortified
Marbella of the muslims
covered approximately a
surface of 90.000 square
metres.
On this reduced ara
a group fo back streets were
constructed, today the lines
can still be seen. |

ROMAN VILLAGE OF RÍO VERDE |

Very close to its township, these
remains were already known in
the XVIII century though it was
in 1960 when the archaelogist
Car los Posac Mon and Mr. Fernando
Alcalá Marín discovered
part of the villa, which hasn´t
been totally explored yet.
The
area discovered includes an
in te rior pa tio surrounded by te rior pa tio surrounded by i
pillars (peynistylum) and twelve
rooms, these ones to give
light to the in te rior rooms of the
buil ding.

OLD TOWN |

It is
magnificient preserved, and it
favours an intense commercial
life, where you can find the
most diverse establishments,
in an area of white washed side
streets and balconies filled

“VEGA DEL MAR” BASILIC |
 |
Situated in the town of San Pedro
Alcántara, its construction is
visigothic and it dates back to
the VI century a.c. It can be
found within a group of churches
with two apses, one towards the
east and the other to the west,
with north african influences.
The ba sí li ca is surrounded by a
necropolis and was discovered
during the first years of this
century whilst planting eucaliptus
trees on the beach.
The following
arquelogical excavations brought
to high a diversity of materials
which are exhibited in museums
in Marbella, Málaga and Madrid.. |
PUERTO BANUS |
Port Banus, owes its name to
its pro mo tor D. José Banús, it is
situated six kilometres from the
Marbella town cen tre, it is one of
the main attractions of your city.
Named Centre of National Touristic
interest and rewared with the Gold
Mercury International due to work
done in favour of the develpment
of economic cultural and social
cooperation. Inaugurated in 1970,
two years after the begining of
the construction, its host inside its
installations 915 berths of between
8 and 50 metres long which have
received some of the most luxurious
ships in the world..

“ENCARNACIÓN” CHURCH |

Right in the heart of Old
Town Marbella you will find
one of the most beautiful and
popular squares, the Santa
Maria de la En car na ción,
built in 1505.
The new
Parish was built on top of
the old one in 1712, Pedro
del Castillo and Salvador
Gávez were engaged in the
constriction, and in 1756
they sculpted the beautiful
main façade.

DALÍ SCULPTURES |
In the centrally-located Avenida
del Mar is a permanent, open-air
exhibition of sculptures by the
incomparable artist Salvador
Dalí.
A unique collection that
you can admire whilst taking a
stroll close to the sea. |

ROMAN THERMAL BATHS |
 |
The Roman Thermal Baths,
daiting from the 3rd Century,
are situated at the mouth of
the Guadalmina River and the
Arroyo del Chopo, 500 metres
from the Basilica of Vega del
Mar.
It is laid out around and
octogonal patio with a vaulted
room. The purpose of this set of
buildings might have been to act
as a water deposit for storing the
water brought by aqueduct, or as
hot baths, judging by the similar
architecture to others.

THE CHURCH LOS REMEDIOS ESTEPONA |
A convent occupied by the
Franciscan Priests during
the Tertiary Order from
1725 to 1766. In 1835 it si
abandoned by the monks
due to the Spanish Law of
the Sale of Church Land. The
facade has an interesting
mixture of different rococo
details as well as styles
reminiscent of Hispanic
colonial architecture. |

CALVARIO HERMITAGE ESTEPONA |

The Ermita del Calvario is a
small building from the XIXth
Century with a square ground
plan an arris dome. The exterior
is very simple. The tower of the
old parish is the only remainder
conserved from the primitive
church parish. The technicians
believe the construction date is
around 1818. Towards the end
of the XIXth Century the town
converts it into a sacred place
of prayer. |
THE CLOCKTOWER · ESTEPONA |
Probably the minaret of
a mosk on muslim times.
Following the taking of the
town by the Castilians, the
mosk becomes a church, its
tower then used as a belfry.
In the 13th century a dome is
added to it, in neoclasic style
and decorated with garlands,
volutes and high reliefs
representing an ox skull.. |

BENAHAVIS |
 |
LMountain Village, 7 km inland from the Coast. It has
many restaurants to choose from, for this reason
it is also known as “The Gastronomy Corner of the
Costa del Sol”.
One of the most attractive features of
this village is “Las Angosturas”, a small narrow pass
through which the river Guadalmina runs This pass is
considered a Natural Monument of interest.

CASARES |
White Village situated in the Mountains of Ronda. It has many
pretty strees on the hillside with stunnig views.
The natural
surroundings of the Sierra Crestellina Mountains, with its rocks
of limestone, limit the acces to the Genal Valley, which is a
shelter for many species of fauna in danger of
extinction. |

SAN LUIS CASTLE ESTEPONA |

The ruins of the Castillo de St. Luis, built in 1497 (approx.)
Never really considered a castle, it was a Watchtower built by
Enrique IV. Its main function was to protect the surrounding
area from possible attacks from North Africa.
For this reason
it was built in a very privileged position, at the top of a hill yet
close to the sea. The town of Estepona of the XVth Century was
built around this tower.

MANILVA’S CASTLE |
For most of its history, Manilva has been devoted
to fishing and agriculture, in particular the cultivation
of the grapes from which the rich must famous
throughout the surrounding area in extracted.
However, little by little, Manilva has become a
centre of tourist activity, and today boasts facilities
such as housing estates, La Duquesa golf course
and Pleasure Harbour, as well as being the scene of
major sports tourism projects of significant international
interest.
Important monuments in Manilva’s history include:
Santa Ana Parish Church. La Duquesa Castle: stle: st this
stands on a site once occupied by a Roman villa,
part fo the materials of which werw reused to build
the castle. |

Excepcional area for tuourist to visit, with numerous
facilities Duch as the first marina to be found entering
from the Mediterranean Sea.
There are many leisure
activities to enjoy (polo, golf, saliling, fishing, etc.), with
many charming places to visit in the surrounding areas,
such as the “Los Alcornocales” Park, the Castle “Castillo
de Castellar” as well as many little villages, making a
visit to Sotogrande a must.
